Buckinghamshire Short Mat Bowling Association

The BSMBA is pleased to announce a new initiative to encourage older people to become more active, by taking up the sport of Short Mat Bowls.

This initiative is run by the ACTIVE-IN project management team within the Adventure Learning Foundation Charity, providing activities for the community. The team provide a large number and wide range of low cost activities to get people more active. These activities include both traditional and non-traditional programmes designed to provide opportunities to try something for the first time, or to try committing to something you enjoy on a more regular basis.

The very first sessions are being hosted by Hawkslade Short Mat Bowls Club and they take place on Friday afternoons from 3.30 p.m until 4.30 p.m. The cost of each session is just £2.50 but ACTIVE-IN are providing vouchers to offer the first session free of charge. (Click here for link)

The address is:

Hawkslade Farm Community Hall, Orwell Drive, Aylesbury, HP21 9YL

If you would like to take part in any of these sessions, just turn up and introduce yourself to Ian Forbes, who will be happy to welcome you and give you some first class instruction.

All the equipment is provided, but you should wear some flat soled shoes to prevent any damage to the bowls mats.

The response so far has been very positive and it is hope that more people will join in as the word gets around.

Leaflets and flyers have been circulated around the local community, being placed in libraries, shops, community centres, doctors surgeries, and numerous other locations where people are likely to see them.

If these sessions are well supported and the take up is good, then it is possible that it can be rolled out to other communities within the South Bucks area.
